Stella Mann College of Performing Arts Ltd/The Stage Scholarship 2010

Stella Mann College of Performing Arts is pleased to be working in association with The Stage in order to offer a scholarship for the three year dance course at the college, starting in September 2010.

The recipient of the scholarship will have their tuition fees paid for the three years of the course, and will get to study with the talented faculty at the college. The faculty have worked with the best in the business, and they will pass on their knowledge and experience to you. Graduates of this prestigious college have appeared in the West End in shows such as Hairspray and Fosse, played the leads in dance feature films, and sung, danced and acted all over the world.

During the three years of the course, you will study jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary, partner work, musical theatre, singing and acting, and learn what you need to know in order to succeed in this business. The training is demanding and rigorous and we will be looking for someone with determination, potential, drive, enthusiasm and a flair for dance. Potential is as vital as experience, as is personality.

Applicants should be 16 years old by September 2010, and have some prior dance experience. The audition will take place on Sunday 16th May 2010 at the college premises in Bedford, and the panel will select the person that they feel best fulfills the criteria above. Applicants will take part in dance classes on the day, so will need to bring appropriate dance wear and shoes. This offer will be subject to college terms and conditions throughout the duration of the training.

To enter please fill out the application form (download from here) and send it, with a recent full length photograph, to:

Stella Mann College FREE Open Days report 2009/10

We have recently finished our latest set of free open days – they were a great success (apart from the one that was snowed off!) and we had some great feedback, some of which is below:

‘Really good I loved it so much, can't wait until I audition!’

‘Great atmosphere with amazing teachers and choreography. Made me more determined - thank you for a great day!’

‘Really enjoyable, loved all classes and teachers’

‘An awesome experience’

‘Been smiling all day!’

‘I had a really enjoyable day and instantly felt welcome’

Five free open days were offered to students from under-represented groups and any other students who were interested in experiencing the college for a day. The dates were held on weekends – either Saturdays or Sundays so that students would not have to miss school and they ran between November 2009 and January 2010. Already, 39% of those who attended have auditioned, and more are due to audition in April, and 5 of the attendees were from the targeted groups. The open days also attracted 8.75% male participation.

Ex Student and original cast member of Hairspray in the West End, Michael Peters (left) joined us on one of the open days and taught jazz and musical theatre repertoire, as well as being on hand to answer any questions the participants might have. His visit was a great success, and we wish him luck in his new role as Richie in A Chorus Line in Salford.

The students also got to work with:

Janet Devenish (Deputy Principal)
Ballet and Musical Theatre

Jonathan Rees (Head of Singing and Musical Theatre team teacher)
Musical Theatre vocals

Alan Burkitt (Jazz)
Jazz and Musical Theatre

You can read theirs and all our faculty biographies on our faculty page.

The open days are designed to give the students who attend an experience of life at the college, and to have access to staff and students (who demonstrate and show everyone around) so that they can ask questions about auditioning, and the college. More dates will soon be announced – watch this space and hope you can join us!
